Fertility Support: How to Become Pregnant with Acupuncture

By Dr. Renae Haldeman · New to some of these words? See the glossary.

Trying to get pregnant can feel overwhelming, but old wisdom offers a strong guide. In traditional Korean medicine, the Sa’am Four-Needle Technique gives a special, focused way to support fertility.

This style of acupuncture works to balance the body’s natural energy, to create the best setting for a healthy pregnancy.

The Seed and the Field

Traditional Asian medicine often uses pictures from nature to explain how the body works. In Sa’am fertility care, getting pregnant depends mostly on two body systems:

  • The Stomach Channel (the Field): This is like the soil in a garden. It must be rich, well fed, and ready to support new life. (A channel is a pathway that carries energy through the body.)
  • The Kidney Channel (the Seed): This stands for the essence of life and a person’s genetic potential. A strong, healthy seed is needed for a pregnancy to take hold and grow.

Other body systems affect your overall health, but Sa’am acupuncture works on the “Field” and the “Seed” to give you the best chance of getting pregnant.

Healthy Habits at Home

Acupuncture works best with a healthy lifestyle. You can support your fertility at home by focusing on three things:

  • Enough rest: Get good sleep to balance hormones and rebuild deep energy.
  • Good food: Eat foods full of nutrients to help build a rich, welcoming womb.
  • Less stress: Lower stress hormones (like cortisol) to improve blood flow to the organs used in having a baby.

Real Success Stories from Renaissance Health Centre

The best thing about Sa’am acupuncture is that it treats the whole person, not just the symptom. Recently, three women with very different health stories came to Renaissance Health Centre for fertility support:

  1. Secondary infertility: The first woman already had one child but had been trying for a second for over two years.
  2. Unexplained infertility: The second woman was young and healthy, and her tests were all normal, yet she had not been able to get pregnant for over a year.
  3. PCOS: The third woman had never been pregnant and had the hormone problems of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Their health backgrounds were very different, but each woman got an acupuncture plan made just for her. With steady visits, all three became pregnant and had beautiful, healthy, full-term babies.

No matter where you are on your fertility path, acupuncture can help prepare your body for the family you are waiting to welcome.
